A Word from the CEO

Avalon-Airshow

Each year seems to pass faster than the one before it - and here we are about to launch into 2020.  We have packed a lot into 2019:

The Australian International Airshow at the end of February wowed over two hundred thousand in spite of the extraordinarily hot weather.

At the same time we introduced the Aviramp to our international flights, making dis/embarking far easier and more accessible, we reconfigured our car park into long and short term parking, and we are the first airport in the country to switch over to 100% CT Scanner in the international terminal.

We’ve sponsored sports grounds and clubs in and around Geelong and Werribee, including our on-going major sponsorship of Werribee Football Club. This year we proudly sponsored Daniher’s Drive for the first time - raising funds for Fight MND - a terrific cause and great group of people to work with. We are again sponsoring the Cadel Evans Road Race and the Vic Open Golf Championships in 2020.

We were proud to win both the Medium to Large Business and the Business Leader of the Year Awards at the prestigious Deakin University Geelong Business Excellence Awards in July.

And in November we were thrilled to be named Major Airport of the Year at the National Airport Industry Awards run by the Australian Airports Association.

Our Jetstar domestic flights have done significantly well all year. The AirAsia flights that began in December 2018 are doing exceptionally well also. 67% of arrivals are international passengers, and of those 50% are here for leisure. A further 26% are visiting friends and relatives and 15% are here for education. We look forward to our numbers and flights growing even further in 2020.

In August we signed an MOU with the Sovico Group and soon after announced a partnership with VietJet who plan direct flights from Avalon to Ho Chi Minh City in the second half of 2020.

And we welcome back the LATs again this year, and as always hope fervently that they find they have little to do across the fire season.

2019 has been a huge year - and next year will be even bigger with many exciting developments on the horizon. We’d like to thank all our supporters, all our partners and everyone who flies in and out of Avalon - have a safe summer and a great start to the new year. Travel well.
