2018 began with a party in February where we announced that AirAsia would begin flights out of Avalon by December. A packed hangar formed the arena that blue-sky day in February, and since it was an announcement ten years in the making, the celebrations reverberated across the region.

AVALON AIRPORT, 5 December 2018 – AirAsia, the world's best low-cost airline has touched down at Melbourne Avalon Airport this morning, launching the first international services to and from Victoria's second airport in Melbourne's Southwest.
Avalon Airport today formally launched its new international terminal ahead of AirAsia flights commencing this week.
The new international terminal was officially opened by Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Hon John Eren MP, Member for Lara.
AirAsia estimates around 500,000 international passengers will pass through Avalon Airport in the first year of operation.
Avalon Airport launched its Industrial Hub with the official opening of anchor tenant the Cotton On Group’s new national distribution centre today. The facility was opened by the Victorian Treasurer, Tim Pallas MP, and Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services and Federal Member for Corangamite, the Hon Sarah Henderson MP.
Melbourne-based creative agency Grin Creative is launching a free quarterly travel magazine for Avalon Airport, to coincide with the airport’s new $38 million international terminal.
