Rail Link project

On 3 May 2011, the Minister for Public Transport committed $3 million for the planning of a rail link to Avalon Airport. The planning study will involve detailed investigations into the technical, environmental, social and economic effects of any potential rail link.
The state government of Victoria is aiming to see a ‘ground break’ for construction of the Avalon Rail link by 2014, which will build upon the existing rail link running past Avalon, implementing a spur running off this line directly into the Avalon Airport terminal.
The Avalon Airport Rail Link project will provide an efficient and affordable public transport service linking Avalon Airport to Geelong and Melbourne.
For more information on the project please visit the Department of Transport website.

Avalon Fuel pipeline project
The current State Government of Victoria, has made an election funding commitment to progress development of a contribution towards a jet fuel pipeline for the Airport.
The pipeline would link in with the existing fuel pipeline coming from the main petroleum plant in Geelong, and run into Avalon Airport for the re-fuelling of all aircraft.
This initiative contributes to the Department of Transport’s Integrated and Sustainable Transport Development output.
Avalon Intermodal Hub

Avalon Airport is working with the Victorian Freight and Logistics Council and the Victorian Government to establish a significant freight hub at Avalon. Avalon has the advantage of low aircraft congestion, a good supply of labour and huge availability of land to offer low cost, efficient air freight logistics. As such, forth purposes of the master plan, Avalon anticipates volumes to increase significantly over today’s activities and Avalon will ensure that there is sufficient land and facilities available to host this activity and the related warehousing, storage and administration.
The long term strategy of Avalon Airport is to concentrate on the development of an airfreight facility, which is generally intermodal in that it provides rapid and efficient industry standard transfer from road to aircraft, and then dedicated airfreight charter services to key destinations in Asia and other target markets. Connection to port and rail modes will be via a dedicated heavy rail link within the airport which would link into the Geelong heavy rail network to Melbourne and Geelong.
Avalon International Terminal
Avalon Airport is committed to establishing an International Terminal. Discussions with a number of International airlines are ongoing and if successful, these airlines will either use the existing terminal or be located in a new International Terminal.
