Avalon Airport is maintained and operated in accordance with the 2007 Avalon Airport Environment Strategy. This strategy outlines environmental management objectives designed to protect the environment.
Avalon Airport is committed within the strategy period to continue to engage and communicate with local and state governments, regulatory bodies and to work closely with local groups including Landcare. Since privatisation in 1997, Avalon Airport has co-operated with the local Landcare Group, the Victorian Government's DSE and the EPA to assess and control environmental risks around the airport. The EPA is contracted to monitor the quality of groundwater and discharge waste from the airport's sewerage system. The airport and Landcare Group, together with DSE, have been working to reduce the impact of salinity on the airport's western boundary by revegetation and tree planting.
Since 2000, Avalon Airport has planted over 20,000 native trees as part of the revegetation and salinity reduction program.
